Dogs
Every week we have a wide variety of dogs/puppies up for adoption. The dogs have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and are microchipped. Please go to our FAQ page to learn about our adoption fees, adoption requirements, policies, how to adopt, as well as other things to consider before you adopt.

A pre-adoption questionnaire must be filled out by all prospective adopters for each dog you are interested in. You can fill out the pre-adoption questionnaire down below(faster option) or you may complete one at an adoption event. Our pet adoptions are held every Saturday from 11:00am – 3pm. If you would like to inquire about our animals (besides coming to our pet adoption) you may contact us via email. Please keep in mind that we are volunteers and have families and jobs but we will respond to your email as quickly as possible, especially if it is an emergency. All HB dogs, unless otherwise noted, are indoor dogs.
A word about ages: We do our best to accurately represent the ages of the dogs in our program. Sometimes we have good information on that, many times we do not. Working with sending shelters, our experience, and our vet we strive to make our “best guess.” There may be times when paperwork will not match what we’ve stated. Sometimes the birthday may be miss keyed in paperwork from the sending shelter such as a dog that is obviously an adult whose paperwork states they are 18 days old or a puppy who is listed as being three years old. In addition, many dogs that come into rescue have not had the highest quality diet and their teeth may appear “older” than they really are. Sometimes it may be a difference in opinion. Sometimes it may be an error in communication. While we try to be accurate we cannot offer a guarantee on an animal’s age.

Foster Homes Needed: We are always looking for new foster homes. If you have ever wanted to help, now is the time! To learn more about fostering, please go to our Foster Facts page. The dogs (and cats!) thank you for considering becoming a foster mom, dad or family!
Homeward Bound encourages people who plan to visit the adoption events to complete the online application below, prior to the event, so you are approved if you find a match for you there. Prior approval of applications is needed to take a dog home from the event.

Alaska is a 6-7 year old 38 pound mixed breed who is a quiet, mild mannered, blend into the background soul. We think she should find her family who will help her shine. Alaska is house trained, crate trained, likes walks, does great with dogs, cats and new people. Alaska is well behaved and super affectionate. She enjoys sharing the couch, walks, cuddles, and showing off her excellent manners out and about. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com with questions.

Atticus is a middle aged mixed breed, about 45 pounds, who has a tough past but he sure doesn’t show it. He is always happy. He loves to chase the squirrels and enjoys watching the birds at the bird feeder, he doesn’t bark or growl at the birds he just sits on the couch and watches them. He likes to lay on the couch and will cuddle with you if you invite him. He loves to sleep in bed with his fosters as well, no matter how little space there is. Atticus came from Mexico and was badly hurt, left to heal on his own. He had a broken pelvis and broken leg that healed on it’s own. Maybe that’s why he enjoys a soft bed and a warm loving home so very much. Atticus is a smart dog who responds very well to training. He enjoys other dogs, meeting people, and plays well with others. He is well house trained and crates when alone, although is graduating to more free reign then also. He’s just a very good boy who deserves his own home. He’s past due for it. Name: Bo
Breed: Terrier Mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male
Size: Medium
Description: Bo is a 9-month old male Terrier mix needing an adopter who has some dog experience. He has shown resource guarding against kids, and thrives in an adult, structured environment. He is house trained, crate trained, minds some commands, and would love a home with someone who can continue training, boundaries, and no kids. He does well with other dogs. Boone is an 8 month Lab/Shepherd mix in need of a foster or adopter. He is a friendly and outgoing boy, used to kids and dogs and cats, but lost his farm dog life privileges because he wants to kill chickens. So, he is hoping for a home with no birds to kill. Boone is crate trained, used to being both inside the house and spending time outside on land so would like a home with yard space. He’s smart, happy, playful, and a good dog. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com if you can foster or adopt.

Name: Bowie
Breed: Beagle
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Medium
Description: Bowie is a Beagle with some baggage. Cute as can be, this young adult Beagle has a lot of Beagle traits (the bay, the enthusiasm for long sniffing walks, the passion for food, and wily smarts) but came to us with some serious resource guarding issues. He went through behavior rehab and is doing wonderfully, but without an experienced dog owner will revert back. He used to guard food, items he thought were his, and his sleeping space, and would react with a bite. At this point, in foster care, he allows us to handle him all over, take food and treats away, and move him. He needs an experienced owner to continue boundaries, training, and kind firmness. We adore him, we have no issues right now (except with cats, he hates cats). Bowie is house trained, crated when alone, loves walks, would do best with a fenced outside area, and we are highly recommending continued training classes. Please email Katie @ kladams4545@gmail.com with questions. You can get a head start on the process by filling out the application above.

Bogey is a confident, smart, determined and friendly mixed breed puppy who sure is not shy. He wants to meet every human and animal who crosses his path and is unafraid to try anything asked of him. Bogey loves the water, is already fetching, and is learning the house training and crate training. He is learning boundaries with other dogs, and respecting when they tell him off. If he is placed as an only dog, puppy socialization and obedience classes are very recommended to continue the dog socialization skills. He enjoys kids, wants to wrestle cats, loves playing outside and would be a great dog for off leash training, he is already doing well at coming when called. Bogey would love a home with a yard. We think he is a mix of Lab/Border Collie/bulldog of some sort, and he is about 12 weeks old. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Buckeye is a 10 to 12 week old female German shepherd and Labrador retriever mix seeking a new home that is going to love her for the rest of her life. Rescued from being homeless on a reservation in Minnesota, she is in a foster home learning the important skills of house training, crate, training, and manners. She is very comfortable with other dogs, and has not yet been on her own as a single dog. She is good with cats. She’s a very smart and responsive puppy who is catching on very quickly to training . If you are interested in learning more about Buckeye, please email kladams4545@gmail.com.

Buddy is a 2 year old Retriever/Border Collie mix ( best guess) who was used to living with kids and other dogs, house trained. He was left outside in the yard while owners worked and being a young active dog, he was bored, and chewed things. When he chewed the trampoline, he got dumped at the shelter. Buddy is seeking a home who wants a smart, energetic dog to train and work with. He loves people and other dogs, is curious and a little pushy with cats… we are recommending no cats unless you have a lot of experience to work with him. He does need a foster or adopter in order to come to us the 21st. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Cabo is an adult German Shepherd, rescued from the streets of Mexico, and is now adjusting to home life in MN. He is well house trained, has not needed a crate, walks well on the leash, and is very laid back and quiet. He is, however, extremely protective of his home, and needs an adopter who can manage this behavior through training and behavior management ( for example, he gets crated every time someone comes in the door). Cabo does well with other dogs but can not live with cats. His ideal home would have some land and not many visitors, as well as needing someone who can manage an overly protective dog of their home. Out and about he is just fine. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Camden is a gentle soul, very timid and not yet known much kindness. This 30 pound Beagle/Collie mix ( for real, we saw her mom who is a Collie!) is a gentle soul. She is quiet and watchful and learning it all, and we can’t wait until she learns to expect love and good care. Camden is learning the house training from the other dogs, follows their every move and is highly dependent on a dog friend. She is respectful of cats and gentle with people. Everything is still new… steps, leash, car rides… and she needs a committed and patient adopter to stick with her and teach her. Her loyalty and gentle spirit will make it worth the time. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Chloe is an adolescent female Lab/Border Collie mix, a smart dog who has a loving heart as well. She gets along with kids, cats and dogs. Chloe is doing great with house training, crates when alone, and would love dog social experiences or a canine playmate. She’s still young, so expect continued training, but she is exceptionally smart and responsive to training. Chloe would be happiest in a home that commits to daily playtime and walks. She has limitless potential. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Dharma is a young adult female German Shepherd/Retriever mix who came to us from Mexico with a past that seems like she had some cruelty shown, and she has worked so hard to overcome it. She is smart- already house trained and crate trained, loves walks but could use some manners on the leash, learned some commands. She is sweet- loves to cuddle up in bed, shadow you around the house, and smother those she loves with kisses. Dharma has major hero worship on other dogs and is happiest running and playing and snuggling up with a canine companion. She has also done well with cats. Dharma is shy with strangers and men she doesn’t know, and will bark and retreat. She lives with young kids right now that she adores, but their unpredictable shouts and movements startle her and she reacts by barking at them. Her ideal home would be with patient adults, a yard, and another playful dog who wants a buddy. She needs someone patient and kind to choose her. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Dutch is a young adult male Terrier mix with a very social and friendly personality, seeking a home who wants a dog to play toys with, go for walks, watch movies with, have adventures. He is house trained and crate trained, does well with other dogs, best with older kids due to his playful energy. Dutch very much enjoys playing with other dogs and would love a canine companion and space to play. He is about 15-20 pounds. He is neutered, vaccinated, wormed, heartworm negative, and chipped. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

.
Gilly is a young adult male Terrier mix with a happy go lucky and very friendly personality. He enjoys walks and meeting new people, does well with other dogs, and is tolerant of the cats at his foster home. Gilly is house trained and crated for the workday. He may be a little too puppyish for really young kids still, but does very well with older kids and adults. He is active and social and needs a home to commit to daily play or walks, as well as enjoys an affectionate little cuddler. Being a Terrier, he does need a home who can enforce some limits and rules right from the start, and he is highly respectful of authority. Gilly would prefer a home with yard space. He is neutered, heartworm treated, vaccinated, wormed and chipped, and we do a 2 week trial on all adoptions. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Hank is an 8 year old Corgi/Shepherd mix ( 30 pounds), seeking a home with some experience with epilepsy in dogs. He is well behaved and trained in the house, used to kids and cats and an elderly dog. Hank is currently on meds that run about $75 a month to manage his seizures, but still has one seizure every 4-5 months. Likely a change will mean a few seizures also as he settles in. He is a mellow guy who loves creature comforts like soft beds, treats, walks and lots of love. We know his chances are slim of finding someone willing to take this on, but we sure are hoping. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com. More photos available.

Howie is an adult male Australian Shepherd/English Shepherd mix, used to cats and enjoys playing with other dogs, seeking a new home. He has been well loved, and his family is seeking a new home because they know he needs more exercise and training than they can give him. Howie is house trained, crate trained, knows some basic commands. He is seeking a home with yard space or acreage and someone committed to daily training and exercise, which his breed needs. He is comfortable with little kids but his manners indicate to us that he would do best in a home with older kids and adults. Behaviorally, he needs socialization and work on not barking at new people when they come into the home. He is otherwise a stable and happy dog, and warms up to newcomers after a few minutes. Howie LOIVES the ball, splashing in water, and cuddling up to sleep. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com with questions.

Jaye is a 6-7 year old female Yellow Lab who is a gentle soul. She absolutely adores kids, does well with other dogs, passed a shelter cat test ( unknown if lived with cats prior, but shows no signs she’d be aggressive). Jaye is such a sweetheart that she charms everyone she meets instantly. She is seeking a loving home who considers their dog family and treats them accordingly. Jaye seems to be house trained and minds her manners. She does have a peppy side also and loves walks and playing with her toys. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Logan is a 1 year old Goldendoodle seeking a very specific home. She is very outgoing and happy and friendly to everyone, including kids, dogs, cats, and even horses. She is house trained, hates the crate so does well with someone home most of the time and with a structured routine. Her current foster leaves her loose inside for periods of a few hours with their other dog and she does very well. Logan requires a hobby farm type situation, or somewhere with lots of land for her to run freely on with human supervision and playtime. She will NOT do well with a city yard or even daily walks, she needs the hours of running and playing chase with dog friends, fetch, swimming, trail rides, etc. She learns boundaries well. If you have an active lifestyle and land, and want an always happy big dopey dog to join you, please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Lola is a 35-40 pound short and solid bundle of love and friendliness. She loves meeting new people, really enjoys kids, and is always in a good mood. Lola is some type of herding breed and possibly bully breed mix, she is solid and stocky and so friendly and confident that everyone loves her. Lola is learning the house training, is crate trained for the workday and overnight, medium energy- she does love to wrestle and play and go for walks, but also settles well. Lola is great with kids and does well with other dogs of various sizes, although being previously starved, she is fed in her crate. Her food is still something f great value to her, although humans can mess with it freely. Lola would do best with a yard, with someone who enjoys a funny dog who is playful and puppyish still, and someone who can enjoy all the love and joy she brings. She is spayed, heartworm treated, vaccinated, wormed and chipped, and we do a 2 week trial on all adoptions. Lola would be a fantastic family dog. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Breed: Beagle/Boxer/Shar Pei Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Louisa is a young adult female medium size (35-40 or so pounds) Beagle/Boxer/Shar Pei mix, and we have been learning her and loving her for the past few months. Louisa was rescued from a hoarding situation and gave birth in the shelter on Easter Sunday to some beautiful pups. She and the babies came into foster care and she has been blossoming. Louise is cautious with new people but with a little time and patience easily won over, and her loyalty is unbeatable to those she loves. She is dog and cat friendly, used to caged guinea pigs, reliably house trained and quiet in the crate when alone. Louisa LOVES daily run time on the hobby farm and is good about coming back right when called. She likes the car. Louisa is especially cautious with men and young kids, so her ideal home would be a woman, a fenced yard, and another dog to wrestle and play with, or somewhere with some land. For the person/family willing to make the time and patience investment, she is going to spend every day for the rest of her life repaying it. Please email Katie @ kladams4545@gmail.com with questions. You can get a head start on the process by fill out the application above.

Marley is an absolutely adorable, always happy, very outgoing and friendly female young adult Black Lab mix seeking a forever home. Marley is house trained, crate trained, loves walks and car rides and adventures and so much love. She does very well with kids and other dogs, cats are unknown. Marley absolutely positively does require a fenced yard for the simple reason that she will not pee on the leash routinely… so in order to maintain house trained, she does need a fenced yard. She has had to move a few times already when apartment life is not fitting with her, but she thrives in a fenced yard and is so well behaved. She LOVES other dogs, ideally her forever home would have a canine playmate or someone who walks and can visit dogs. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Meiko is a 6 month, 22 pound Lab mix puppy who was found in heart wrenching shape. She was skeletal thin, had a collar that had grown into her neck all the way to exposing her trachea. A shelter has asked us to take her, but we need a foster/adopter commitment to do so. She is playful, submissive, clearly been mistreated as she seems to expect to be hit, but learning to trust humans. She needs routine puppy training like house training and manners. Her foster/adopter does need to be within driving distance of our clinic in Fridley for her spay. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com
Mellie is an older girl, a middle aged 45 pound gentle soul who spends her days being a good girl, the best that she can be. She doesn’t bark, she’s house trained, she gets along with every human and animal she meets. We think she might be a Lab/Cattle dog type mix, she’s not very big. She walks politely on lead and loves attention and affection. Mellie is heartworm positive and being treated for that now, not contagious and can finish treatment with an adopter. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Seeking foster or adopter by December 3rd…. otherwise we have to leave her at the shelter.
Maggie is a 4 month old Cattle Dog/Corgi mix who is desperately searching for her forever home. Maggie is growing up in rescue. Both of her brothers were adopted right away, but here poor Maggie sits, waiting for her Happily Ever After. Maggie loves everyone she meets. Her tail is constantly wagging, and she is always on the lookout for her new best friend. She is housebroken and crate trained on a schedule, fostered with kids, other dogs and cats. Maggie does have a fair amount of energy (she is a herding breed after all) so needs someone who is up for everything that entails – both physical and mental stimulation. Maggie does need some work on her manners, so she would do best in a home with no young children, as she forgets herself sometimes and would likely be too much for littles to enjoy. An active home with another young dog would be ideal, though not required. Maggie is incredibly food motivated, which will go a long way with training. We think she would excel at Obedience and Agility. She needs someone willing to put in the time and effort to help her reach her true potential. If you think you may be what Maggie has been waiting for, please fill out an application at: https://docs.google.com/forms/

Mushroom is a 1 year old petite ( 25-30 pounds) Pit Bull mix, and not only is she adorable, she has the sweetest personality. Mushroom is a very sweet and energetic girl that loves being around people. She’s very friendly, though she can sometimes be too excitable for younger kids as she likes to jump and lacks awareness of her own strength. Sometimes she loves a little too enthusiastically for small kids, but she sure does enjoy them.
She does very well in her crate and will remind us of bedtime at the same time each night. She loves routine, and if our routine is off we leave a puppy pad by the door and she uses it. She is otherwise house trained on a schedule.
Mushroom gets along well with other dogs and cats- in fact, she seems happiest when she has other pets to play and cuddle with. She’s a very social dog, an infrequent barker, loves to play fetch, and when not distracted, very intelligent. She would be a wonderful addition to an active household that has plenty of attention to offer her. If you have an open spot on the couch, an arm for throwing toys and walking her, and a spot in the car for rides, please consider her. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Orion is such a sweet goofy 4months old Australian Shepherd/ Collie mix. Currently, he is about 20 lbs but we predict him to eventually grow up to be around 40 lbs. He is a little shy and nervous about new environments at first but once he comes out of his shell he is a bouncy happy puppy. Orion would really benefit from some obedience training to help him become more confident with new people and surroundings. He would also love to have another confident dog in the house to show him that the world isn’t so scary. His foster is working on potty training and crate training with him. He gets along with cats and kids. Please do some research into the needs of herding breeds before wanting him just because he’s cute.

Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Medium

He is happy and craves attention, but when corrected he will act like a tough guy (snarl) but has never tried to actually bite. He is house trained, crate trained, does well with other dogs, and prefers adults. Peter Pan is about 25-30 pounds, loves walks, loves toys, and needs a home who won’t be scared when he sounds like a grump. Penny is a 6 month old mixed breed, we think some Lab and some Australian Shepherd and a mystery of other breeds also. She will likely be about 55 pounds as an adult. Penny came from a reservation, where she never had her own home. She had grown up so far on her own, with a kind soul feeding her and her 15 other ‘family’ members. Penny loves other dogs, and since she has been used to so many, would be happiest adopted to a home with a dog friend. She is curious about cats and likes to sniff and lick them in hopes they might play chase, but she respects a no from them also. Penny is fostered with older kids and does well. She is house trained, crate trained, learning commands. Penny does require a fenced yard at this time due to learning the leash, and because it’s new, not yet knowing she can go potty on walks, so she does depend on the fenced yard currently. This beautiful girl with the soulful eyes is hoping her patient and living home discovers her soon. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com Her fee of $450 plus tax covers spay, shots, worming and chip, and we do a 2 week trial on all adoptions.

Rip is a beautiful blue Aussie/Retriever/Chow/mystery mutt, a recent rescue off a reservation here in MN where he was part of a large group of dogs who belonged to nobody. He came to rescue and is learning about life as a pet… and he likes it, a lot. He is still very cautious and watchful, just taking it all in, and has some major hero worship on the big dogs. He loves to follow them and cuddle up. Rip is with toddlers and is a little wary of the sudden movements and noise, he may be happier in an adult home- or, he may just still be settling in, it’s been less than a week. He is learning the house training, crates when alone, and is being taught manners. The puppy adoption fee of $550 plus tax covers neuter, shots, worming, and chip, and the adopter does need to finish his vaccine series as he grows. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Name: Sonic
Sonic is a young adult Lab mix, a pretty big solid guy who LOVES to play. He will turn anything into a game. That roll of paper towels? Confetti. That ball you threw? He will grab it, run circles around you, and toss it back. Other dogs? Instant friends, no matter if they want to be or not. He is too enthusiastic for cats, he bowls them over in his play. He is the happiest dog we have ever met, and is all about having fun. He is very puppyish still, so needs an adopter willing to continue puppy training a big full grown dog. He is doing very well with house training, but not yet 100%- previously outside dog- and crates when alone. Sonic would thrive in a home with a fenced yard or land, another active dog, and someone to work on obedience with a very enthusiastic learner. He is joy in canine form. Survivor is a good dog for living a life that shows how far a good attitude can take you. Rescued from homelessness on a reservation where he was freezing to death, then surviving parvo ( an illness he now has immunity against), he has been a sweet soul through all of it. Survivor is a mix of Lab/Retriever/possibly Chow, about 12 weeks old, and has the most plush and soft fur ever. He is fostered with other pets and with foster parents who are putting a lot of time and investment into puppy training and socializing. He would love a home with another dog to keep him company, and someone patient to continue the training. His fee of $550 plus tax covers neuter, shots ( adopter will need to finish the vaccine series as he grows), wormer and chip. We have a 2 week trial on all adoptions. Sweets is a 10-12 week petite German Shepherd/Retriever mix puppy who is enjoying a warm home with a lot of love and attention, and responding beautifully to training. She is learning the house training, crates well next to the bed at night, absolutely loves her human and canine friends. Sweets responds instantly to a whistle and loves to learn new tricks and commands. With her breed mix, we are seeking a home owner and preferably someone with yard space who also enjoys walks and training time. Sweets does not love this cold weather and is real quick about potty time outside. Her fee of $550 plus tax covers spay, shots, worming and chip. Adopters must complete the vaccination series as she ages. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

He is fostered with other pets and with foster parents who are putting a lot of time and investment into puppy training and socializing. He would love a home with another dog to keep him company, and someone patient to continue the training. Twinkie is a 4-5 month female Collie/Border Collie mix, and this sweetheart has lived her entire life without yet belonging to anyone. She lived in the streets until recently when she was caught and went to the pound. The animal control worked so hard to encourage bravery and courage, and she’s slowly and surely making progress. Twinkie comes to us and foster Feb. 4th. We know she seems to be catching onto the house training from the other dogs, she has hero worship on other dogs and would be happiest joining a dog in a home, is respectful of cats, and a watcher. She sits back and takes it in and then when she feels brave, she joins. She’s a mellower girl right now but we hope she becomes more outgoing and playful as she learns to expect kindness and love. Wakku is a 5 year old male Schnoodle, a happy little character who loves attention and fussing and playing and holding. He soaks it all up and never gets sick of it. He has been good with visiting kids, enjoys other dogs, will chase cats though. He came from a hoarding house, but is catching onto the house training quickly, and keeps his crate clean. He is highly dependent on having another dog friend, so we’d love his adopter to have another dog at home. He is used to a fenced yard for potty, and while we will easily adjust to a leash, expect a backslide in house training as he learns. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com

Name: Winky
Breed: Rat Terrier/Walker Hound Mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Winky is a 45 pound very well behaved dog who is seeking a home where she can be the only dog. She has no idea she IS a dog; she is sure she is human. Winky is house trained, crate trained, knows some commands, and very well behaved inside. She is a very sweet with people and gets along well with everyone. Winky lives with other dogs right now but clearly doesn’t enjoy them very much, so would love a home where she is the only canine, and with not a lot of dog friends coming over. If she needs work on one thing, it’s leash walking when other dogs come up to her, she doesn’t love it. A home with a fenced yard or a calm neighborhood is ideal. She is smart, loveable, and going to make someone the best friend ever. Her fee of $450 plus tax covers spay, heartworm test, worming, shots and chip. Zeena is a senior female Doxie who was found freezing to death in a snowbank, and people reported seeing her dumped out. Luckily a kind soul took her home ( St Cloud) but cannot keep her. We are seeking a foster home as her owners have not been located and her legal stray hold is over. Zeena is quiet, appreciates a calm and predictable home where someone is home most of the time. She is NOT house trained at her current place, and whether that’s learning a new routine or the reason she as dumped, we are not yet sure. She is cautious with new men in her life. If you are able to take Zeena in and offer her a safe, calm place to be, either foster or adopter, we would be so grateful. Please email kladams4545@gmail.com
